The presentation will include many examples of Parrish's work from all phases of his long and successful career. Following Parrish's death in 1966, his children selected and authorized Syracuse resident Coy Ludwig to write the first book about their father and his work. The family gave Ludwig unlimited access to the artist's papers, archives and vast photographic library. The resulting book, Maxfield Parrish, published in 1973, helped to create a resurgence of interest in the late artist's work. This program is co-sponsored by the Arts & Crafts Society of Central New York.Bookmaking Workshopdetails.php Sun Jun 6 2010 10:00:00 AMSun Jun 6 2010 2:00:00 PMFiredetails.php 2010-02-18 Sun Jun 13 2010 2:00:00 PMSun Jun 13 2010 00:00:00Directed by Deepa Mehta 1996, 1hr 50min, PG-13 Mixing references to Indian mysticism and the epic poetry of the Ramayana with late-20th-century feminism, Fire is a story of frustrated desires, love-starved women and the stifling bonds of tradition. The film depicts a middle-class family in today's New Delhi, where feminist ideas are plainly still a novelty. The central figures are two women who suffer different forms of marital unhappiness rooted in traditional attitudes. Sita and Radha are young Indian women whose husbands choose celibacy or mistresses over their wives. The two women become friends and grow closer together, forming a forbidden but liberating relationship. A lush, passionate story of emancipation and love in a closed society.
