WORKSHOPS

Professional Development workshops are held throughout the year for educators of all disciplines and grade levels. Educators receive curriculum packets (lesson ideas, images and other resources) and partake in gallery walks, lectures, and art making to support pre- and posttour classroom activities.

Visual Thinking Strategies Workshops

Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS) is a student-centered, developmental, inquiry-based method of teaching. VTS helps students and teachers develop critical thinking skills through art-based discussions. Teachers learn facilitation techniques, which improve student observation and evidential reasoning skills and address important Visual Arts and English Language Arts learning standards. VTS workshops are held on a regular basis. Workshops for individual schools may also be arranged. Contact the Education & Public Programs Department for more information.

Student Art Open 2008: (Un)doing Fashion

Attention High School Art Teachers in Onondaga County!

This year's Student Art Open (SAO), (Un)doing Fashion, will draw it's inspiration from the Museum's fall exhibition, Marie Antoinette: Styling the 18th Century Superstar, a solo exhibition by fashion designer and installation artist Jeffery Mayer. Mayer will lead educators through this stunning, bizarre and fantastical installation, which puts a contemporary twist on Marie Antoinette's personal style. Art making and lively discussion will round out the day. SAO themes may include historical and contemporary issues related to fashion, from critique to creation. This workshop is required for schools to participate in the SAO. For more information and early registration, contact Pamela McLaughlin, Curator of Education and Public Programs, (315) 474 6064 or pmclaughlin@everson.org.
