The Everson Museum of Art remembers Prof. Judith Meighan with a tribute to the life and legacy of a remarkable individual who left an indelible mark on the world of art, education, and mentorship.
Dr. Judith Meighan, a teacher, scholar, and artist, dedicated her life to the pursuit of knowledge and the cultivation of creativity. Born in Philadelphia and an alumna of Swarthmore College, Judy earned her M.A. and Ph.D. in art history from Columbia University, later contributing her expertise to prestigious institutions such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
In 1993, Judy joined the faculty of the Art School at Syracuse University, where she passionately imparted her knowledge to countless students. Her commitment extended beyond the classroom as she curated exhibitions at the Everson Museum of Art and advised the Museum’s Education Department, embodying her belief in the power of art to inspire and educate.
To honor Judy’s enduring impact, the Meighan Arts Education Program seeks to support and enrich arts education initiatives.
