The Everson Museum of Art has released free tickets for several live performances by the vertical dance troupe BANDALOOP. BANDALOOP’s engagement is among many free activities planned by the Everson for ArtsWeek, and concludes the 50th anniversary celebration of its I.M. Pei-designed building. Notably, BANDALOOP kicked off the year-long celebration with an outdoor performance at the Museum’s Gala.
A pioneer in vertical performance, BANDALOOP celebrates the human spirit, nature and communities through dance that uses climbing technology to expand and challenge what is possible. The Oakland-based group will premiere a newly-created dance work in three acts commissioned by the Everson Museum for performances on the walls of its acclaimed I.M. Pei-designed building on July 26 and 27. The company has performed for millions of people in over 22 countries.
BANDALOOP wowed guests at the Everson Museum’s 50th Anniversary Gala in September 2018 with solo, duet, and quartet performances on the Museum’s cantilevered exterior walls. Since then, the company has been developing new vertical dance compositions for both the interior and exterior walls and spaces of the Everson, including the Museum’s iconic spiral staircase.
“Designed by the late modern master I.M. Pei, the Everson building has always been considered a work of art for art. By commissioning BANDALOOP to create new work to be performed on and in the building, the Everson is taking that idea to a new level, giving our audiences an opportunity to see and appreciate this architectural masterpiece in new ways while also experiencing the integration of different art forms. Art, dance, and architecture–it’s going to be magical, and I can’t think of a better way to wrap up the Museum’s 50th anniversary.”
