Workshops
Professional development workshops are held throughout the year for educators of all disciplines and grade levels. Educators receive Resource Guides (lesson ideas, images, and other resources) and partake in gallery walks, lectures, and art making to support pre- and post-tour classroom activities.
Visual Thinking Strategies Workshops
Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS) is a student-centered, developmental, inquiry-based method of teaching. VTS helps students and teachers develop critical thinking skills through art-based discussions. Teachers learn facilitation techniques which improve student observation and evidential reasoning skills and address the Common Core learning standards.
Educator Resource Guides
The Everson Museum of Art offers a variety of resources to enhance your curriculum. Educator Resource Guides correspond with the permanent collection, temporary and traveling exhibitions, and are meant to help educators adapt the content of an exhibition to their individual curriculum needs. They include an introduction to the exhibition, artist biographies, related lessons, images, glossary of terms and additional resources for further research on your own, such as websites and printed materials. In addition, the guide provides educators with the necessary information to maximize the benefit of a guided tour of the exhibition.
School Tours
The Everson gives students the opportunity to enjoy, learn and connect with art through a variety of docent-led tours. Choose from one of our thematic tours or take a general tour of the permanent collection and temporary exhibitions.
Outreach
The Everson Museum of Art can come to you! A Museum educator will provide a Museum-themed lesson in real time (each session lasts approximately 30 minutes). This program is meant for schools, homeschool groups, and area community organizations. Sessions must be scheduled at least three weeks in advance.
Museums play an integral role in the way society perceives itself. They are trusted sources of information and custodians of objects. More than that, museums shape culture and inspire people to action. In this virtual art talk, students have the opportunity to engage with an Everson staff member to discuss the role of museums as culturally responsive organizations, and take a virtual guided tour of some of Everson’s highlighted exhibitions. This art talk addresses standard 6 of the Common Core’s art standards for high school students.

General Tour
The Everson Museum of Art features the works of American artists from the 18th century to the present, including painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, video and ceramics, as well as special exhibitions.
Architecture
The Everson’s architecture tours offer a closer look at our largest work of art: the Museum’s renowned building designed by internationally acclaimed architect I.M. Pei. The Everson was Pei’s first museum and launched his career as a museum architect. Over the course of his career, Pei has designed more than 35 museums and exhibition spaces throughout the world including the Pyramide du Louvre (Paris, France), National Gallery’s East Wing (Washington, DC), the Kennedy Library (Boston, MA), Sainsbury Wing – National Gallery (London, England) and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame & Museum (Cleveland, Ohio).

Studio Art Workshop K-12 School Groups
This program pairs a 60-minute Docent-led tour with a 60-minute art-making experience in the Danial Family Education Center. Students will explore the galleries and discuss works of art and then make their own creations out of clay. Please specify if you wish to use air dry or kiln fired clay when scheduling.
- Studio Art Workshop must be requested at least four weeks in advance
- K-12 Studio Art Workshops can accommodate a maximum of 30 students
- Workshops are available Tuesday through Friday mornings
- Fee is $8 per student.
- Add an additional $2 per student if using kiln fired clay, which covers the cost of preparing and firing pieces
- Pre-payment is required
- Kiln fired pieces may take several weeks to dry and fire.
Planning a Tour
- $100 per class (25 students) plus an additional $50 per 25 students
- Pre-payment is required.
- Scholarships are available to organizations and schools that demonstrate financial hardship or need. Inquire about scholarships during booking.
- Tours must be scheduled at least three weeks in advance.
- Private docent-led tours are available Tuesday – Friday beginning at 10:00am.
- Weekend tours are available on a limited basis.
- Tours last one hour unless other arrangements are made.
- Group size is limited to 60 people per hour. Larger groups may reserve two consecutive sessions.
- If you plan to have students draw or write in the galleries please let us know in advance. Please note: Only #2 pencils are allowed in galleries.
- We ask that students in school tours arrive at the Museum with name tags.
- We cannot accommodate unscheduled tours.

K-12 Docent-Led Tour Fee
A nominal tour fee of $100 per classroom for K-12 school groups requesting docent-led tours is required. Scholarships will be available for request
on a need basis.
Financial Aid
Tickets for students to attend exhibitions can be purchased through the Center for Instruction Technology & Innovation Arts-in-Education service. This component is intended for off-site experiences in the arts areas only. Visit Center for Instruction, Technology & Innovation to find out if your school is eligible.
