About the Fund
The Arlene Abend Artistic Fund is a donor-advised fund established by her daughter, Tema Abend, in honor of her mother, Arlene Abend, to support and inspire women in the arts.
This fund celebrates Arlene’s more than 70 years as an artist who relentlessly tested every medium she touched – pushing materials to do things they were never meant to do. She inspired those who were told it “couldn’t be done” and challenged those who were non-believers. She was outspoken in a “man’s world,” recognized for working with all types of metal, often managing pieces and equipment designed for people double her size and strength. She challenged any man to do it better. A strong feminist standing just five feet two inches tall, Arlene lived boldly, creatively, and without apology. Throughout her life, she encouraged women to ask powerful questions: “What if?” and “Why not?”
Guided by this curious, motivated, and fearless spirit, the fund offers women artists opportunities to explore creative paths they may not have previously considered—to experiment with new fields, ideas, and mediums; to try something different or unexpected; and to step beyond familiar circles and comfort zones. The fund supports women who dare to reach higher, take risks, and expand what is possible through art.
This fund serves as a living legacy, one that reflects Arlene’s belief in the power of women in the arts. By investing in women artists, the fund honors her commitment to creativity while helping shape a more inclusive and vibrant artistic future.
The Purpose
The Arlene Abend Artistic Fund was created to ensure that Arlene Abend’s artistic spirit lives on through meaningful support for women working across artistic disciplines. The fund prioritizes initiatives that:

Support the Arlene Abend Artistic Fund
