Summer Art Camp 2024
Calling all creative youths for the 2024 Everson Summer Art Camp!
Campers will dive into an array of artistic mediums and disciplines while making friends, and most importantly, having fun! Students will take classes in ceramics, videography, fabrics, drawing, storytelling, and much more. Campers will also explore the Everson Museum of Art’s exhibitions and incredible collection of artworks inspiring them to make art of their own.
Our talented and creative teachers will facilitate fantastic projects that involve guest artists, outdoor activities, and exhibition opportunities at local markets, Food Truck Fridays, and the Everson’s Café Louise. These unique experiences and artistic explorations will develop camper’s critical thinking skills, communication, and appreciation for the arts.
Ages 5-12. Campers are grouped by ages 5-7 and 8-12 in each session.

Session One: July 15 –19 All Day (8-12)
Session One: July 15–19 AM: Claytastic Ceramics! (Ages 8-12)
Campers will have the opportunity to explore clay and learn how to use ceramics tools, all while expressing themselves through the creative process. Lessons will include hand building pots, animals, people, and abstract forms. There will even be an opportunity to learn how to throw clay on a wheel. Campers in this class will also learn about the history of ceramics in the Everson’s collection through the week.
Session One: July 15 –19 PM: Digital Art (Ages 8-12)
Combine your creativity with technology and create your very own beautiful digital artwork! Campers will learn the basic techniques and functions of the popular digital drawing app Procreate to express their inner artist. In today’s artworld, Procreate is one of the most easy-to-learn and accessible ways to make digital art. For the duration of camp, Everson will provide iPads fully loaded with the Procreate app and digital pens.
Session Two: July 22 –26 All Day (ages 8-12)
Session Two: July 22 –26 AM: Radical and Recycled Sculptures (Ages 8-12)
Unleash your creativity while making a positive impact on the environment! In this class campers will transform various everyday materials into sculptural masterpieces. From fabric, to plastic, used vinyl and CDs, different projects in this class will show students how recycled materials can be a staple in sculptural art practice. Students will explore the world of sculpture, environmental awareness, and enhance creative problem-solving skills.
Session Two: July 22 –26 PM: Picture This (Ages 8-12)
Does your young artist love to capture a moment? Look no further than because during this weeklong course campers will embark on a thrilling exploration of photography, learning the fundamentals of composition, lighting, and storytelling. Through a blend of hands-on activities, outdoor excursions, and interactive lessons, campers will learn to see the world from a new perspective and develop their creative vision using our digital cameras.
Session Three: July 29 - August 2 All Day (ages 8-12)
Session Three: July 29 - August 2 AM: Animation (Ages 8-12)
Students will create their own stop-motion movies through making clay puppets, sets, costumes, and more. They will learn basic animation programs, so they have the tools to continue making their own animations. Students will also practice drafting their own fantastical stories and characters that they will see come alive. This course is perfect for any students that have an interest in storytelling, animation, or stop motion! At the end of the week students will have an opportunity to show their short films to each other in the Everson Educational Classrooms, as well as get a downloadable link to save their animation creations at home.
Session Three: July 29 - August 2 PM: What's On The Menu (Ages 8-12)
Join our exciting art camp where young artists explore the creative potential of food as an art material. Discover, create, and have fun in this unique, hands-on camp experience! Campers will be able to create unique no-bake recipes and practice serving each other in our Education classrooms.
Session Four: August 5 – 9 All Day (ages 8-12)
Session Four: August 5 – 9 AM: Street Art (Ages 8-12)
Gear up for an adrenaline-filled summer camp experience that focuses on the vibrant world of street art! Campers in this class will unleash their creativity on wheels and walls, drawing inspiration from urban spaces and creating them into vibrant works of art. Make your own city then decorate it through the exploration of new mediums like spray-paint, relief printing, and graphic design.
Session Four: August 5 – 9 PM: Miniature Madness (Ages 8-12)
In this enchanting class, campers will explore the fascinating realm of miniature artistry, where creativity knows no bounds. Through a series of engaging activities and guided instruction, kids will learn the art of crafting intricate miniature masterpieces using various materials such as clay, paper, found objects, and more. From tiny sculptures to miniature dioramas, each project will spark their imagination and inspire them to think big in small-scale creations.
Session Five: August 12 –16 All Day (ages 8-12)
Session Five: August 12 –16 AM: Entrepreneurship for Kids (Ages 8-12)
It is never too young to become an entrepreneur! During this camp, students will create their own miniature businesses and inventions, learning principles of entrepreneurship along the way, such as recognizing opportunity, problem-solving, gaining resiliency, and goal setting. Students will also become inventors by doing market research, prototyping an idea, and creating something truly unique!
Session Five: August 12 –16 PM: Fabric Feels (Ages 8-12)
We use fabric every day –it protects us from the cold and heat, the rain and the bright sun. We use blankets to cover us in our sleep and rugs to cushion our steps. During this camp, students will look at fabric beyond its practical functions to use it to create their own inner artistic desires. Maybe it’s a self-portrait or a landscape scene. Or a multi-layered creation with abstract colors and shapes.

Session Two: July 22 –26 AM: Build A Fort (Ages 5-7)
Who knew that you can learn about architecture through forts?! During this camp session students will create models of skyscrapers, hotels, and museums that are inspired by the Everson’s world-renowned building designed by architect I.M. Pei. Materials such as legos, cardboard, and fabric will be utilized to turn our campers into young architects!
Session Two: July 22 –26 PM: Creative Sculpture (Ages 5-7)
Is that a face made of macaroni noodles?! Often sculptures are made from stone, wood, or even plaster. Drawing inspiration from the Everson’s expansive sculptural works. In this camp, students will create their own sculptural works with various materials from recycled objects to spaghetti noodles. Students will learn about composition and form to create sculptures that will be part of a group art exhibition at the end of the week.
Session Three: July 29 - August 2 AM: Food Art! (not recommended for students with food allergies) (Ages 5-7)

Session Four: August 5 – 9 AM: Be Mindful (Ages 5-7)
Creating art can sometimes be frustrating and overwhelming. During this camp, Everson will take the frustration out of art and ease campers’ bouncing minds with mindful art exercises. Art is a great and natural way to practice mindfulness. Students will learn various concepts and techniques to bring intention and focus to their creations. Practicing mindfulness can help students enhance their capacity for self–awareness, and ability to reflect thoughtfully on daily life experiences.

Policies & Procedures
Drop-Off and Pick-Up
- Drop-off is between 8:45am – 9:00am for Morning Half Day or Full Day sessions and between 12:45pm – 1:00pm for Afternoon Half Day sessions. Please notify the Everson if you are running late. Guardians may be asked to pay a $10 fee if child is dropped off significantly past this time period. Guardians must physically walk their child inside of Education Center and will be asked to sign-in.
- All students must be picked up between 12:00 – 12:15pm from the Morning Half Day session, and 4:00 – 4:15pm for the Afternoon Half Day or Full Day session. Please notify the Everson if you are running late. Guardians may be asked to pay a $10 fee if child is picked up significantly past this time period. Guardians must present a photo ID for the Everson to release the child. More details about pick-up authorization can be found in our Camp Protocols section.
- The closest bus stops to the Everson is at South State St. & Harrison St. The following transit lines have routes that pass near S. State St & Harrison St: AUB38 , SY36 , SY52 , SY58 , SY62 , SY82 , SY88.
Camp Protocols
- Only authorized adults will be allowed to pick up your child from camp. The Everson will under no circumstance release a student to a babysitter, nanny, other guardian, or friend unless we have written permission from a primary guardian. The presentation of a photo ID is required for us to release a child during pick-up.
- Full Day campers will receive snack and lunch breaks. Please pack a lunch that does not need to be refrigerated. The Everson will provide a small, individually bagged snack and juice box. Half Day campers during the morning or afternoon sessions will not receive a lunch break, but will be provided with a snack break. Due to food allergies, sharing of snacks and any nut-based products are prohibited. Campers should bring their own water bottles each day as there will not be access to a water fountain.
- Art camp can get messy! Please have your child wear appropriate attire.
- Anyone who feels ill, is running a fever, or is exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, must stay home. If anyone should test positive for COVID-19, please notify the Museum immediately so proper health measures can be taken.
- Unless you have specific permission, guardians may not stay during the camp. It can be distracting for students.
- If a student demonstrates disruptive behavior, teachers and staff will try to positively redirect that behavior. If the inappropriate conduct continues, the guardian will be notified and may be asked to pick up the student.
- On the first day of camp for both Morning Half Day and Afternoon Half Day sessions, camp instructors will lead campers on an emergency preparedness and evacuation drill.
Refund & Cancellation Policy
- No refunds are available less than two weeks before the camp begins. Refunds are transferable to another course (depending on availability) or 50% refundable.
- We are unable to initiate a refund after the course begins.
- No refunds or credits will be issued for missed camp days.
Cancellation Policy
The Everson reserves the right to cancel any camps with low enrollment no less than a week before the class. The Everson has the right to cancel camp sessions if two or more campers from separate homes test positive for COVID-19.
Funds are transferable to another course or will be 100% refunded. If the Everson must cancel camp due to Covid-19 the museum will refund for days missed.

- If your student has medication needs, please fill out the Medication Authorization Form and deliver electronically prior to when the camp begins. This form is an editable PDF. You can download, add in your information, save it, and then email it to [email protected].
- Deliver all medication to the Education Office in the original prescription bottle or in clearly marked containers with a second printed copy of the Medication Authorization Form attached to the container.
- Verbally communicate with camp Director and staff regarding specific instructions for medication.
- Medication will be held in the Education Center office.
- Medication given throughout the day will be recorded on a Medication Log Form which will be signed by camp Director at the end of each day.
- Campers with allergies must fill out the Allergy Information Form and deliver electronically prior to when the camp begins.
- Guardians of campers with Epi-Pens or inhalers must also fill out the Medication Authorization Form.
- Epi-Pens will be kept in a red first aid bag that will be within 5 feet of camp instructor at all times. While our staff is trained to administer Epi-Pens, all campers age 8-12 will be expected to be trained on self-administering.

- The Everson Summer Art Camp curriculum will include activities, themes, topics, and the presentation of contemporary and historical artists and artworks from a non-Eurocentric perspective, centering the curriculum on cultural appreciation rather than cultural appropriation.
