Watercolor Portraits with Dan Shanahan

In this workshop, Dan Shanahan will guide you through the critical process of laying out their work by drawing and using watercolor to place lights and darks to carefully create depth.
You will learn how to identify details where needed and work loosely to finish a portrait in a limited amount of time.
Everson will provide the material needed for the class but ask that students supply their own brushes. Students are free to bring their own other watercolor material as well.
Dan Shanahan paints with Open Figure Drawing every week, plein air paints during the summer, and creates illustrative painting, with watercolor.
Plein air painting and painting from a model require working fast and loose, but in his illustrative work, there are no time constraints like the setting sun, or model fatigue, so he takes his time and works precisely.
In this workshop, he will help students combine the two methods when painting a portrait.
