Discover the expressive possibilities of paper clay with CNY Artist Initiative featured artist Renqian Yang. Blending organic and constructed forms with personal experience and shared histories, Yang’s work explores how emotions persist, transform, and connect us across time, place, and culture.
In this immersive mixed-media workshop, you’ll experience the unique qualities of porcelain paper clay, a material that combines the delicate beauty and permanence of porcelain with the flexibility and strength of paper fiber. Participants will begin by creating ink and watercolor paintings on rice paper, then reflect on their imagery through a guided writing exercise.
These drawings and personal writings will become the inspiration for expressive paper clay sculptures enriched with color and texture.
