Join us for a special exploration of porcelain craftsmanship in this two-part workshop series! First, we will tour the special exhibition Laurent Craste: Iconoclasts and explore porcelain artworks on view. Next, we will view and handle porcelain pieces from The Rosenfield Collection of works by internationally known potters. Then, we will transform that inspiration into functional creations of our own! Instructor Catherine Walsh, local potter and Everson team member, will happily guide you through the creative process of hand-building one, and wheel-throwing another of your very own porcelain teacups.
This class is best suited for folks with some experience with wheel thrown ceramics. Open to ages 18+.
Week 1: 10:30 am–1:30pm on January 31
View the exhibition, then enjoy tea served in a ceramic mug from The Rosenfield Collection while the instructor demonstrates the processes involved in creating porcelain vessels. Then create your own hand-built and wheel-thrown teacups!
Week 2: 10:30am–12:30pm on February 7
In our second class, we’ll be able to trim our wheel thrown works, attach handles, and decorate our pieces with underglazes. You’ll also be able to select from a range of colored glazes or clear to show off the pristine porcelain underneath. Staff will apply the glaze for you after the first firing. After the glaze firing, you’ll receive an email notifying you that your piece is ready for pickup!
