EVERSON MUSEUM ANNOUNCES PLAZAPALOOZA

SYRACUSE, NY (June 9, 2016) – The Everson Museum of Art is excited to announce Plazapalooza, a one-day festival celebrating the arts and creativity in Central New York. Plazapalooza takes place 11.00am – 8.00pm June 18 on the Everson Community Plaza and inside the Everson Museum. Museum admission is free all day. Other activities include a Makers’ Market of local artists and artisans selling their wares, raffles, family tours, art making, food trucks, dancing and performances, and the day will culminate with the Empire Brewery Beer Garden featuring local musicians Joey Esce and the Pale Green Stars.

“There’s really something for everyone at this event,” said Community & Public Relations Manager, Renee Storiale. “I love that there will be engaging activities for families, opportunities to support local artists and businesses, and fun social aspects you can enjoy with friends. It’s really going to highlight what a vibrant arts community we have in Central New York.”

Free Museum Admission
11.00am – 8.00pm
Featuring new exhibitions Kindred Beasts: The 2016 Everson Biennial and Kate Gilmore: Touch like this, Hold like that, and including performance art throughout the day on the Everson Community Plaza.

Makers’ Market
11.00am – 6.30pm
Outside under the tents on the Everson Community Plaza, visitors can peruse the wares of local artisans and purchase raffle tickets to win unique items donated by the vendors to benefit the Everson Museum.

Mini-Food Truck Rodeo
11.00am – 8.00pm
Visitors can purchase “street eats” from local food truck vendors including Toss ‘n’ Fire Wood-Fired Pizza and The Bite Box. In partnership with the Syracuse Food Truck Association.

Everson Museum Sidewalk Sale
11.00am – 4.00pm
Great deals on art books, toys, and fun, quirky gifts from the Everson Museum Gift Shop.

Raku Firing
Noon – 4.00pm ($15 fee)
Participants can glaze a piece of pottery outside the Museum in a traditional brick raku kiln. In partnership with the Syracuse Ceramics Guild.

Art Marking
Noon – 4.00pm
Family-friendly art activities including weaving, clay, and painting. Local artists will share their materials and techniques through demonstrations, answer questions and share samples of their work.

Family Tours
1.00 – 3.00pm, on the hour
Family-friendly tours of the Everson Museum. Check in at the Visitor Services Desk, space limited.

Dancing on the Plaza
1.00 – 3.00pm
Tom DeFrancisco and friends will line dance to your favorite club songs, with just a little country mixed in. Visitors can view the demonstrations and join in.

Empire Brewery Beer Garden
5.00 – 8.00pm (Cash Bar)
Empire Brewing Company will be serving some of their most popular products on the Everson Community Plaza while guests enjoy local music. Opening act Joey Esce plays 5.00 – 6.00pm, followed by headliners Pale Green Stars from 6.15 – 8.00pm. Bar sales benefit the Everson Museum of Art.
